Business Advisory Council Chair sought

Every two years, the Milford Board of Education appoints a chairperson of the Board’s Business Advisory Council (BAC). This Council is responsible for helping the board with projects that relate to business relations with the district, which could include helping evaluate issues the Board is facing or identifying needs/opportunities for students and the district relating to future employment and the job market. “I could feel my brain growing”

In this article, Huffington Post blogger Salman Khan describes reading time with his son:  “Aren’t you glad how I struggled with that word,” the five-year-old asked.  “I think I could feel my brain growing.”

Khan explains how research he has been reading talks about the brain being a muscle like any other:  if you don’t use it, it won’t grow.  This means that intelligence is only partly inherent; for the other part, you can control it by using and expanding your knowledge and thoughts, by struggling to understand new and complicated concepts.

What are your thoughts about this?  Do you encourage your children to “struggle?”

Extracurricular Update Sept 18, 2014

Jr. High Student Council: 8th grade elected officers for 2014/15 helped plan a “Back to School Bowling Bash” open to all 7th and 8th grade Milford students. The event was hosted at Eastgate Lanes and had approx. 100 staff and students attend. The next event will be the Halloween Dance coming up in late October.  Continue reading

Athletic Update Sept. 18, 2014

Girls Golf: For the third consecutive season, the Milford High School girl’s golf team has captured the Eastern Cincinnati Conference Tournament Championship, as the Eagles bested the five-team field on Monday at Bel-Wood Country Club. Milford, which is 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the league, finishes the dual portion of its ECC schedule hosting Kings and looks to wrap up the overall ECC Championship next Tuesday. Megan Creager increased her medalist total to 12 for the season while helping the Eagles remain undefeated in dual play. Continue reading
