Business Advisory Council Chair sought

Every two years, the Milford Board of Education appoints a chairperson of the Board’s Business Advisory Council (BAC). This Council is responsible for helping the board with projects that relate to business relations with the district, which could include helping evaluate issues the Board is facing or identifying needs/opportunities for students and the district relating to future employment and the job market.

Tom Rocklin served the past two years as the Chair of the current BAC, which worked on evaluating the Board’s liability related to Milford Main, recommending the Board divest itself of the building as soon as possible. They worked with a number of developers and other experts in the construction industry to evaluate all aspects of the building, its upcoming maintenance needs and its usefulness for other applications. This was a difficult and emotionally-charged project, and the Board and administration greatly appreciates all the hard work Tom and his members put in over the past two years. The resulting report was extremely helpful in helping us focus on the issues the district is facing with the building and in bringing that situation to a resolution that will be beneficial for the entire community.

Now, the Board has opened applications for Chair of the next BAC. Anyone who is interested in leading this Council for 2015-2016 should send a letter of interest and a résumé to Dr. Bob Farrell, Superintendent, 777 Garfield Ave, Milford, OH 45150. Applications must be received by November 1. The Board will then interview candidates at the November 20 school board meeting and appoint a new Chair.

The new BAC will convene in January 2015. Four members will be retained from the previous Council, and the new Chair will appoint four members, for a total of eight members.

If you have any questions, please contact me or Dr. Farrell.
