Highlights from 3/15/18 school board meeting

WOW! This is not from our school board meeting, but it’s breaking news – Ripple, a company that uses blockchain and cryptocurrency technology to make international payments faster, lower cost, and more reliable, has donated $29 million to DonorsChoice.org to fund every single one of the more than 35,000 classroom projects posted! Thank you, Ripple, for helping over a million students around the country!

Resolution Opposing HB 512 (Consolidating the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Department of Higher Education and the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation into a new state agency called the Department of Learning and Achievement)
Increase learning by taking notes by hand

Here are the highlights from the 3/15/18 school board meeting:

  • Matt Arnett from the Milford Engineering & Robotics Boosters presented to the board re: their program and what students are achieving. This is the district’s newest booster group, and it is providing exceptional opportunities for students to explore engineering concepts and compete in the VEX Robotics competition. Students are developing skills that will be extremely valuable for them, no matter what career they choose.
  • Elementary school administration is shifting for next year. Sarah Sloan, currently Principal at Mulberry Elementary, will become the Milford Preschool Director and Instructional Coach next year. The preschool director position is being expanded to include the instructional piece, and Ms. Sloan is a perfect fit for the job! Sarah Greb will take her place as Mulberry Principal, and current Preschool Director Minna Espy will become Assistant Principal at Mulberry. This is our largest elementary building – over 700 students – and the additional administrative help is needed. A new Seipelt Elementary Principal (replacing Ms. Greb) will be hired at the April board meeting. Congratulations to all!
  • Treasurer Debbie Caudle will unfortunately be leaving the district to return to the State of Ohio. She will be greatly missed. The board is in the process of determining how best to proceed with filling this position.
