Business Advisory Council recommends creating task force to explore later school start times for MHS/MJHS
Teenage brains are still developing
The following are the highlights from the 5/10/18 school board meeting:
- The Board hired Mr. Brian Rabe as Treasurer, replacing Mrs. Debbie Caudle, who has taken a job with the State of Ohio. Mr. Rabe is a highly experienced treasurer who most recently worked at Southwest Local Schools. His first day with Milford will be June 11 – welcome, Mr. Rabe!
- Shane Ferguson, MJHS math teacher, has been named High School Assistant Principal effective August 1. Mr. Ferguson replaces Mr. Tom Willson, who is becoming Principal of McCormick Elementary. Congratulations to you both!
- Katie Arber was hired as the new MHS drama teacher and theatre director. Mrs. Arber performed in New York City for a number of years before moving home to Ohio and starting her teaching career. Mr. Andrew Desmond and Mr. Tim Dailey are the new MHS/MJHS band directors. Both have extensive experience not only in education, but in drum corps as well. Welcome to all three!
- The monthly curriculum video focused on the high school’s AP Capstone class. This is a two-year combined research and writing program where students direct their own learning. The class teaches in-depth research techniques, providing a very strong foundation for college work. Milford HS was one of only 8 high schools in Ohio to start this new program a few years ago; currently, only 28 out of 1,453 public and private high schools in Ohio to offer the program.
