Last year was the deadliest year for mass shootings in recent U.S. history, with 345 incidents recorded by Gun Violence Archive. As of today, there have been 34 mass shootings this year, five of them on school grounds during school hours – 55 days into the year! Clearly, something is wrong.
If we want to change this, we need to address the issue head-on, to find non-partisan, evidence-based solutions that will reduce the number of mass shootings in this country. Our national lawmakers continually refuse to appoint a special commission to investigate, or to change the law so the CDC can study this as a public health issue. So instead, how do we get this done?
